Training and Workshops

Using Data Part 2: Writing with Data

“The Learning Evidence and Impact (LEAP), Technical Writing and Editing (TWE), and Integrated Communications (iComms) teams are pleased to announce a 3-part community of practice (COP) series titled: Data use: tips, tricks, and best practices. Each of the COP sessions will share examples and use a case study to encourage participants to interactively apply skills during the session. The COPs will be open to All-Staff to encourage participation of Pact colleagues from all departments and countries.”

Working with Business Development Templates

“The training covers such topics as template layout and the reasoning behind it, applying the programmed styles to ensure proper formatting, page setup specifications (page and section breaks, page orientation), troubleshooting headers/footers and page numbering, and best practices for elements (graphics, tables, textboxes, figures). Please note that while many of these topics are applicable to any document created in Word, the training is specifically geared toward proposal documents; thus, some of the tips may not be appropriate for non-proposal documents, like thought leadership. There will be time for Q&A, but if there is anything in addition to the listed topics that you’d especially like to learn about in the training, feel free to message me so I can include it.”

Programmatic Reporting Training

“The Technical Writing and Editing (TWE) team is pleased to announce the first quarterly meeting of the Technical Writing Community of Practice (TWCOP), on Tuesday, October 12! Because many of you will be in the midst of writing annual reports to our funders, we thought that programmatic reporting would be an appropriate topic for discussion this quarter.

Programmatic reporting resources already are posted to the TWCOP Mosaic space [intranet link]. … We will go over the resources in our meeting, share additional tips and TWE team updates, and provide ample time to address your questions and to network with each other.”

Microsoft Word Workshop: How to Take Control of the “Back End” of a Document

This special training for Pact staff helped them troubleshoot some of the most common problems in Microsoft Word, including page and section breaks, pager numbering, headers, and footers.

Designing Templates in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

This process-based presentation took Comm4Dev members through 10 basic steps for creating templates in Microsoft Word, with additional points for applying these steps in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Photography in the Field

“Photographs are an important part of our work. They illustrate our program activities, give faces to our beneficiaries, and showcase our achievements. They add depth and vibrance to text and grab the attention of our audience. TDYs and events can provide some of the best opportunities to capture these moments, but rarely do professional photographers go with us, and often we’re equipped with just our cell phones or a personal camera. Have no fear, you can still take amazing photos, and we’d like to show you how!”

Global Health Practitioner Conference

“The Technical and Operational Performance Support (TOPS) Program, the USAID Office of Food for Peace-funded learning and knowledge management initiative, recently wrapped up phase one of its Small Grants Program, which distributed $2.5 million to 24 organizations through 42 small grants. To highlight the program’s achievements, TOPS would like to share with conference participants some of the successes of phase one and introduce phase two of the revamped Small Grants Program. TOPS will share details on the new request for applications (RFA) and the processes involved in applying for and implementing a TOPS small grant. The TOPS Small Grants Specialist and other staff will be on hand to answer any participant questions.”
